What do you think? Does Skull and Bones really have Geronimo's skull? Vote here.HARTFORD, Conn.–Descendants of warrior Geronimo are suing the U.S. The society is rumored to have many strange relics in its possession, but most people think the stories about the society have been greatly exaggerated. Besides Prescott, both Bush Presidents were members of Skull and Bones, as was former Democratic nominee John Kerry. The branch of the tribe that settled at Fort Sill after Geronimo died is fighting to keep the grave where it is. Not all Apaches want to move his remains to New Mexico. Ten years later, the army covered the grave with concrete and replaced a simple wooden headstone with a stone monument, making it nearly impregnable. Some local historians and anthropologists in Oklahoma have cast doubt on the tale, noting that no independent evidence has been found to suggest that Geronimo’s grave was disturbed in 1918. Obviously, some still believe the story to be pure bull. Ramsey Clark, the attorney representing Geronimo's family says he doesn't have any real proof that the story is true, but he hopes the matter will be cleared up in court. Geronimo's grandson, Harlyn Geronimo, 61, told reporters Tuesday "I believe strongly from my heart that his spirit was never released." Harlyn is leading an effort to gather his grandfather's remains and move them to a new grave on the Gila River in New Mexico. "The skull of the worthy Geronimo the Terrible, exhumed from its tomb at Fort Sill by your club & the K - t Haffner, is now safe inside the T - together with his well worn femurs bit & saddle horn." '19 (a new member, or "Knight"), have been deposited in the society's headquarters (the "Tomb"): It announces that the remains dug up at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, by a group that included Charles C. The letter was written on June 7, 1918, by Winter Mead '19 to F. This comes from a June, 2006 article in the Yale Alumni Magazine :Ī former senior editor of the Yale Alumni Magazine has now discovered the only known contemporary evidence: a reference in private correspondence from one senior Bonesman to another. The story would seem to be sensational crazy talk, but a letter uncovered in 2005 lends some weight to the rumors. The skull is now allegedly in a glass case near the entrance of the Skull and Bones's Yale headquarters, known as the Tomb. Legend has it that Prescott dug up his body with a group of friends in 1918 and stole his skull, two bones, a bridle and some stirrups. Geronimo died of pneumonia and was buried on the army base in 1908 after being captured in 1886. Bush, broke into and desecrated Geronimo's final resting place at Fort Sill, OK, in 1918. They believe Bush's grandfather, Prescott S. Geronimo's heirs are suing Skull and Bones, the secret society at Yale University that could possibly be in possession of his skull. Bush is rumored to have stolen Geronimo's skull. Bush's grandfather steal Geronimo's skull from his casket? The Apache warrior's descendants think so.
